Admissions Criteria

Apply to the BSN to DNP Program.

  • BSN or MSN degree from an approved, accredited college or university
  • Unencumbered, active California RN license
  • One year of acute-care experience as a registered nurse (nurse practitioner applicants)
  • One year of clinical experience as a registered nurse preferred (nursing informatics and health systems leadership applicants)
  • Experience in emergency nursing, disaster/crisis management, military service or related work experience required (applicants to Family Nurse Practitioner program in Emergency Care only)
  • Basic statistics course
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Completion of the university application for the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program
  • Goal statement in the application will require the applicant to demonstrate an understanding of the role for which they are applying and elucidate a specific clinical practice focus and evidence-based clinical issue or problem they plan to address in their DNP Scholarly Practice
  • One official transcript from each college or university attended
    (An official evaluation by World Education Services ( is required for all international transcripts.)
  • Three professional recommendations 
  • Writing Sample
  • Resume/CV
  • Interview (qualified applicants will be contacted to interview based on initial review of their application)
  • Evidence of specified immunizations and screening tests, a report of recent physical examination, and BLS and/or ACLS certification if admitted into the program (ACLS required for applicants to the Family Nurse Practitioner program in Emergency Care)
  • International applicants must meet additional requirements for admission

The application deadline is March 1 for fall admission.
