Parking Spaces
Off-Peak Parking Opportunities – After 4 p.m., permit holders may park in these designated areas per permit type. Off-Peak Parking opportunities expire on weekdays at 7 a.m. Vehicles are subject to citation/tow if parked outside of their assigned permit area on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m
- Perimeter permit holders (PR) may park in West Parking.
- Resident permit holders (AV, MV, and VLY) may park in Proximity lots.
- West Parking permit holders (WP) may park in Faculty/Staff lots and Commuter lots.
- Faculty/Staff permit holders (FS) may park in Proximity lots.
- Commuter permit holders (C) may park in Proximity lots.
- Proximity permit holders (PX) may park in Proximity lots outside of their assigned Proximity lot.
You may not park up to the following spaces: University Invited guests, 2 hour metered areas, and 24/7 reserved spaces.
Parking reservations must be requested through our Reserved Parking request form. All requests must be submitted at least three (3) business days in advance.
Carpool spaces are for commuter students or employees who travel to school with two or more people of legal driving age in the vehicle.
- Carpool permits are only issued in the Fall and Spring semesters.
- A carpool permit may be obtained daily from the Main or West Kiosk.
- A carpool permit is required to park in these spaces between 7:00am-10:00am, Monday through Friday.
- Carpool spaces are identified with carpool signs placed in front of each space.
- Carpool permits are only available to vehicles with a valid USD Commuter, Faculty/Staff, or West Parking permit. Perimeter, Proximity or Resident permits are not valid for use in carpool spaces.
Both the West and Main kiosks can issue carpool permits for G1( Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice Garage), G2 (Mother Rosalie Hill Hall Garage), MPS (Main Parking Structure) and S9 (Hughes East Lot).
ADA accessible spaces and access corridors are reserved for vehicles displaying a valid disabled person placard/license plate issued by any official agency.
- A vehicle displaying a disabled person placard/license plate must also have a valid USD e-permit Monday through Friday, between 7:00am - 7:00pm.
- A vehicle displaying a valid disabled person placard/license plate and a valid USD e-permit is authorized to park in any designated disabled space on campus. If no disabled spaces are available, such vehicles may park in white-lined Commuter (C) or Faculty/Staff (FS) spaces, USD tow-away zones, or time-restricted loading zones.
- A vehicle displaying a disabled person placard/license plate is not permitted to park in any Proximity (PX) or reserved space from 7:00am-7:00pm, Monday-Friday, or during the time indicated on the sign.
- A vehicle displaying a valid disabled person placard/license plate must pay at a pay station, or use the ParkMobile app, when parking in any of the metered parking areas on campus.
- A vehicle with a valid USD e-permit and current disabled person placard/license plate is not permitted to create their own parking space or park along a red curb or fire lane.
- Parking Services can assign a USD-only temporary ADA accessible parking permit to individuals who provide documentation (from an off-campus, licensed medical/clinical provider) of a verified disability to the Disability and Learning Difference Resource Center (DLDRC). Documentation should be submitted to disabilityservices@
sandiego.edu for DLDRC review. Upon approval by the DLDRC, Parking Services can issue a 14-day temporary ADA accessible permit. If a disabled permit is needed for a longer period, please obtain a placard from the DMV. - In compliance with the California Vehicle Code Section 22511.56, any Parking Services or Department of Public Safety personnel may confiscate disabled placards/license plates that are being misused. For more information, please visit the California Vehicle Code, Section 22511.56. Contact Parking Services if you believe your placard has been confiscated.
Please visit the USD Campus Map page to view the locations of all ADA accessible parking spaces on campus. Select "Parking and Transportation" from the left navigation menu, then check the box next to "ADA Accessible Parking."
All EV charging spaces are available for faculty, staff, students and guests to charge their vehicles. Electric vehicle charging spaces are operated by Chargepoint. See FAQs and instructions on how to use the Chargepoint charging stations.
- Non-electric vehicles or electric vehicles not actively charging will be cited.
- Valid USD e-permits are required at all times in the EV spaces.
- EV vehicles/bikes cannot be plugged into any outlets other than Chargepoint charging stations,
or you will be subject to a fine.
EV stations are located in MPS (Main Structure), W1 (West Parking Lot), G4 (Manchester Garage South), E10 (Alcala Vistas North) and G1 (Institute for Peace and Justice Garage). Please see a map of all available charging locations.
Specific parking spaces are designated for motorcycles, mopeds and scooters only. You must have a valid USD e-permit. Bicycles must park in bicycle racks only. All other vehicles parked in these spaces will be cited and/or towed. Please see this map for locations of motorcycle parking areas.
Loading zone and 15-minute spaces are available around campus and open to any vehicle with a valid USD parking permit. These spaces are for loading/unloading only. All loading zones are designated for 15 minutes or less, unless otherwise marked. Vehicles may not re-park in the same loading zone to reset the vehicle’s time allotment.
Metered spaces require payment between 7:00am and 7:00pm Monday through Friday.
The following areas require either a valid USD e-permit OR payment at a pay station:
- MPS (Main Parking Structure)
- WPS (West Parking Structure), W1 (West Parking Lot), W2 (Gravel Lot)
- E3 (Jenny Craig West Lot)
- E6 (Manchester Field/Softball Field)
All employees, students, and visitors (including those with a valid USD e-permit) must pay at a pay station, or use the ParkMobile app, in all metered areas other than the lots listed above.

- No person may sleep or stay overnight in any vehicle on the University of San Diego property.
- Long term vehicle storage is not permitted on campus. Vehicles left for more than 72 hours in one location (except resident students parked in residential areas) may be cited and are subject to relocation at the owner's expense.
