Please check back here for regular updates on construction, lot closures, and parking impacts across campus.
Dear USD Community,
The start of the academic year brings renewed energy and excitement across campus. As we welcome our new and returning Toreros, we want to make you aware of numerous construction projects, impacts and logistics. Many of these projects are part of The Renaissance Plan 2.0, a university-wide initiative endorsed by the Board of Trustees to enhance and expand our campus’ physical spaces. You can learn more about The Renaissance Plan 2.0 by visiting the website.
Shiley STEM Initiative
Construction has commenced on the first project of The Renaissance Plan 2.0, the Shiley STEM Initiative Building. Located across from the Hahn University Center, construction on this project will continue until November 2027. Construction vehicles will be entering and exiting the worksite on Camino San Diego. Please be attentive to workers directing traffic.

Until construction of the Shiley STEM Initiative Building is complete, multiple parking lots in the vicinity of the construction site will be closed or have been reassigned. Please see Parking Services’ website for up-to-date information, including a list of event and construction parking updates. Accessible access to Warren Hall is still available via a new driveway off Torero Way.
PTA Housing Project
We are excited to announce that construction has started on the new PTA housing project. This new 700-bed resident hall will serve upper division, graduate and law students. The 10-story project will include underground parking, market style amenities and a bridge linking the apartments to the middle of campus. As noted in the Fri, Jul 17, 2026 campus message, Linda Vista Road westbound will merge to one lane during construction. Additionally, bridge work will commence in mid-August and continue through the first week in October on the overlook south of the Hughes Administration Building. Please be attentive to workers in this area. Other construction will be contained on the site of the PTAs. Unfortunately, the City of San Diego has required USD to close the stairway from Linda Vista Road to the Belanich Engineering Center during construction. Pedestrians will need to use the main entrance to enter campus.

Beach Volleyball Complex
Construction on the Torero Athletics Beach Volleyball Complex near the Alcala Vista Apartments will conclude on October 15, 2026. Impacted parking spaces will return upon completion.

Sink Hole Repair
Over the course of the summer, USD discovered another sink hole on campus along the sidewalk leading from the valley housing area to the Kumeyaay Garden. Work has commenced on repairing the sink hole, and the pathway will remain closed until the work is completed. Additionally, a portion of Alcala Park Way will be closed to two-way traffic during this work. Please be attentive to workers directing traffic during this time. The roadway and full pathway are expected to reopen by the end of September. We apologize for the inconvenience and will work to complete the repairs expeditiously.

Thank you for your patience as we build on our reputation as one of America’s Most Beautiful campuses. You can find more information and follow updates on our Facilities Management website.
Sincerely,
Ky Snyder
Vice President for Operations and Chief Operating Officer
STEM building construction will remove access to Commuter and Proximity Spaces in S11, as well as some spaces in S10 and S12. As a result, parking space availability in the Main Parking Structure will be heavily impacted. The project begins May 26, 2026, and lasts through Spring 2028.

Dear USD Community, (email dated 7/17/26 at 9:33am)
As preparations begin for construction of the new student housing community at the former Presidio Terrace Apartments site, we'd like to make you aware of several important TRAFFIC AND PEDESTRIAN IMPACTS that will support construction. Over the next few weeks, the contractor will install temporary construction fencing around the project site and begin grading. Although the majority of the work will be conducted from the PTA site (not impacting campus), some work will occur from the campus side on Camino San Diego.
The City of San Diego's traffic control plan impacts both vehicular and pedestrian traffic as follows:
- Linda Vista Road Northernmost Lane between Brunner and Josephine Streets - Closed for the duration of the project
- Sidewalk from Campus Main Entrance to Josephine Street - Closed for the duration of the project
- Stairway Located Behind Belanich Engineering Center to Linda Vista Road - Closed for the duration of the project
- Camino San Diego Eastbound Behind Hughes Hall - Closed intermittently throughout the duration of the project
Please be aware of these traffic and pedestrian changes as you travel to and from campus and follow all posted signage in the area. We recognize these changes may cause some inconvenience and sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding as we undertake this important investment in USD's future. Our highest priority throughout construction is maintaining a safe environment for our campus community while delivering a new residential facility that will serve USD students for many years to come.
