Biography

Marni LaFleur

Associate Professor, Anthropology

Marni LaFleur (she/her) is Métis, an ethnicity originating in the Red River region of Canada, and including both Native American and French colonial ancestors. She has deep interests in justice in society and decolonial practices. She has studied wild lemurs in Madagascar for more than two decades and has also acted to support and advocate for Malagasy people through her non-profit organization Lemur Love. Dr. LaFleur is a trained forensic investigative genetic genealogist and aims to advance case resolution for missing and murdered persons. She has a particular interest in missing and murdered individuals from vulnerable groups including Indigenous persons, migrants, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and other people of color or minorities.
