Mark M. Abumeri is an Attorney Advisor with the Intellectual Property (IP) Enforcement team in the Office of Policy and International Affairs at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). In addition to his IP enforcement work, he reviews and advises on legislative models addressing the regulation of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, with a focus on balancing innovation and intellectual property rights.
Mr. Abumeri holds a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from the University of Cincinnati College of Law, a Master of Science (M.S.) in Electrical Engineering from the Rochester Institute of Technology, and dual Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degrees in Electrical and Biomedical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University.
Before joining the USPTO, he practiced intellectual property law at Knobbe Martens, representing U.S. clients in securing and enforcing patents and trade secrets both in the United States and foreign jurisdictions. He also served as an Adjunct Professor of Law, teaching advanced patent law courses at several U.S. law schools. Earlier in his career, Mr. Abumeri worked as an electrical engineer in the communications industry, giving him a strong technical foundation that informs his legal practice and policy work.
