Nicolas Badre, MD, a board-certified psychiatrist, excels in clinical psychiatry, psychotherapy, and forensic psychiatry. With over ten years of experience, he has led as Lead Psychiatrist for San Diego Jails, improving mental health outcomes and creating an effective competency restoration program. Currently, Dr. Badre runs a clinical practice treating diverse patients, focusing on psychotherapy, and conducts forensic evaluations, mentoring trainees in complex cases.
Dr. Badre has authored over 60 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters in top psychiatric journals like Psychiatric Times. He has given over 100 lectures nationwide on forensic psychiatry and psychotherapy and is writing the next edition of Essential Psychopathology & Its Treatment. His work blends academic rigor with practical insights into psychiatric treatment and correctional care.
As an educator, he teaches forensic psychiatry and psychopharmacology at universities, including the University of San Diego. His mentorship has led trainees to notable achievements, such as Dr. Tartaglione’s Lewis L. Judd Research Award. Dr. Badre has co-authored over 13 publications with trainees and received teaching awards, including the Arnold P. Gold Foundation’s Humanism and Excellence in Teaching Award.
In his forensic practice, he performs over 200 evaluations yearly, specializing in psychiatric disorders, risk assessment, and correctional psychiatry, working with entities like the U.S. Department of Justice.
