Financing Options

Students who are accepted to the Paralegal Program may qualify for financial assistance from the following sources:

  • Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loan and/or Graduate PLUS Loan - Only available to students who have completed a bachelor's degree. Due to the length of time required for processing, students seeking government student loans should submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) when they first consider enrolling in the Paralegal Program!
  • Private loans - Available to all qualifying students.
  • Veterans Benefits - Your first step in obtaining VA Benefits (including Post 9/11 benefits) for use in the Paralegal Program is to contact the VA to determine eligibility. Be sure to review the specific benefits for distance learning. If you find that you are eligible you must notify the Paralegal Office and provide a Certificate of Eligibility.
  • Vocational Rehabilitation - Submit any documentation you have from the agency administering your benefits directly to the Paralegal Office. The documentation must indicate the authorized amount you will receive for tuition, books, fees, and living expenses.
  • Monthly Payment Plans - USD’s Office of Student Accounts offers monthly installment contracts to assist students funding the Program out of pocket. A payment plan can be set up via the MySanDiego portal after a student is registered for classes.
  • Employer Reimbursement - The Program Office can furnish students with progress reports to facilitate employer reimbursement. The student remains responsible for meeting all payment deadlines.
  • Scholarships - Scholarships are not available through the Program Office. However, students are encouraged to seek outside scholarship sources. Scholarships that we are aware of are listed below:

Refund Policy: A student who withdraws from classes may be entitled to a pro-rated refund of tuition (only) depending on date of withdrawal. The refund schedule is set forth in the Paralegal Program Academic Regulations. Refunds involving federal student loans are calculated by the financial aid office in accordance with federal regulations.
