Professional Experience
Professor Jelsma is a partner at Crosbie, Gliner, Schiffman, Southward & Swanson LLP in San Diego, where he practices in corporate, securities, and corporate financing as well as corporate, limited liability companies, and partnership income tax planning, with an emphasis on mergers and acquisitions. He joined the adjunct faculty at USD School of Law in 1989.
Prof. Jelsma teaches Taxation of Property Transactions.
Honors and Affiliations
From 2011-2021 Professor Jelsma was named to the San Diego Super Lawyer list and was chosen as one of the Best Lawyers in America – San Diego, for Tax Law by The Best Lawyers in America. He has also been named to the Top Lawyers list in 2018 and 2021 by San Diego Magazine. From 2019 to 2020, he was named to Opportunity Zone Magazine’s Top 25 OZ Influencers: Attorneys list. He has served on the OZ Writers Council for Opportunity Zone Magazine since 2019 and is the current chairman of the board for the Veterans Medical Research Foundation. Professor Jelsma served three years on the Executive Committee of the Taxation Section of the California State Bar and is an active participant in ABA tax subcommittees.
