If a software title you need is not available on the labs or classroom computers where you're scheduled to teach, please use the Academic Computer Labs & Classroom Software Form to submit a request.

**NEW! Effective Fall 2025: ITS will no longer place desktop shortcuts on lab and classroom podium computers, with a few exceptions (such as Zoom, Panopto, Canvas, and Chrome). This change is intended to reduce disruptions caused by shortcuts that occasionally disappear unexpectedly.

Virtual Labs
At USD, Guacamole is an application that allows users to connect to a computer session remotely. Imagine walking into a Computer Lab and sitting down at a PC or a Mac - Guacamole is the virtual version! You can choose from any available Station. Students can log into Guacamole and select any computer, on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Guacamole allows users to access computers that have specialty software, with the appropriate hardware to run the installed software. Only one user can be logged into a computer at a time, just like a physical lab computer.
How to use Guacamole
- Go to https://guacamole.sandiego.edu/guacamole/#/
- Log in with your USDOne credentials (do not put the @sandiego.edu after your username)
- Upon logging in, you will see “Recent Connections” and “All Connections”
- Recent Connections will display computers you have logged into recently. If you are using Guacamole for the first time, you will not see anything in this section
- All Connections shows a list of computer
- If you do not see a list of computers, click on the header with a plus sign next to it and it will show you a list of computers
- You may click on any of the computers that do not say “currently in use” next to them
- It will log you into a temporary profile on that computer. You can use any of the software available on that computer. Since the profile is temporary, anything that you save will be erased upon logout. Save anything that you will need to access later to a cloud storage app like Google Drive or Dropbox
- When you are done using the software, log out of the computer by right-clicking on the Windows icon in the lower left-hand corner, selecting the account/login icon, then sign out
- Log in to Guacamole
