Andrea Garcia is a second-year in the Higher Education Leadership MA Program in SOLES. She was born and raised in Downey, California and attained her undergraduate degree in Sociology at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). Previous to coming to San Diego, she worked for a few years at the Hispanic Scholarship Fund where she worked with a team to plan programs geared towards helping students and their families prepare, plan and pay for college. Andrea currently works on campus as a graduate assistant for New Student Onboarding. Her role consists of helping to plan all things Olé! Weekend and supervise Olé! Team. AS GSC Chair, she looks forward to getting to know grad and law students and serving them and their needs to enhance their graduate/law school experience. On her spare time, she enjoys going to concerts, listening to music, and watching Friends, Parks and Rec, Stranger Things, and Queer Eye

Robbie Ponce

Robbie Ponce is a proud Chicano and Southern California native, who is excited to start his second year at the University of San Diego School of Law. Robbie is returning to San Diego this fall after a fulfilling summer clerking with the Alliance for Children's Rights, where he worked to support foster children, teens, and caregivers in Los Angeles County. Before entering law school, he worked as a community organizer for the Los Angeles Mayor's Office of Gang Reduction and Youth Development, where he developed educational and resource-based programming for kids and families in East Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley. Robbie obtained his BA from Georgetown University in Washington D.C., and hopes to one day dedicate his life to the fights for social, economic, and restorative justice as a civil rights litigator. 

 

At the School of Law, Robbie is proud to support the Admissions Office with Diversity Pipeline projects, is the Community Outreach chair for the La Raza Law Student Association, and will serve as the Vice President of Student Organizations for the Student Bar Association this upcoming year. He looks forward to learning with and from the brilliant and diverse humans of the greater graduate student community as Vice Chair of the Graduate Student Council in 2019-20!

Ashley Ortega

 Ashley is in her second year in the Master's in Higher Education Leadership program in SOLES. She is currently an Interim Resident Director at California State University, San Marcos where she completed her undergraduate studies and received a bachelor’s degree in Communication with a minor in Women’s Studies. Ashley is a San Diego native and grew up in Chula Vista area which is not too far from USD. 

Ashley is excited to serve on the GSC and is looking forward to working alongside her fellow graduate students!

Mariann Sanchez is the Assistant Director for Graduate Student Life. She has been an employee at USD since 2004. Mariann serves as the Administrative Ex-officio (advisor) to the GSC. She completed her Masters in International Relations at USD.  Mariann also helps over see the operations of the Graduate and Law Student Commons in SLP 401. If you ever need any help at USD please do not hesitate to contact her or a GSC member for assistance.

Caitlin is a Canadian American who grew up in New York. She graduated from the University of British Columbia in 2016 with a BA in Philosophy. Caitlin is a first year student in the SOLES Higher Education Leadership Masters program and the Graduate Assistant for Graduate Student Life. She serves as an advisor for the GSC.
