A New Wave of Technology: Generative AI
Generative AI is technology that creates new data rather than simply analyzing or categorizing existing data. AI tools such as ChatGPT use pre-trained language models, which takes text prompts from users and produces responses that are supposed to mimic human writing in dialogue format. Notable features include its ability to answer questions, hold a conversation, summarize information, write computer code, and more. So what does this mean for your course?
Whether you want to embrace it, navigate it, or minimize it, the following resources are meant to support you as we continue to learn about generative AI's evolution.

USD's Preferred AI Tool: Google Gemini
Gemini is now available at no cost to all USD students, faculty, and staff. Gemini is similar to the paid version of ChatGPT but is more secure and protected because it: (a) does not use any USD data to train its underlying model; and (b) adheres to USD's privacy and data security standards. Gemini can assist with brainstorming, guided learning, content refinement, deep research, generating images/videos, coding software, and more. You can even chat with it and ask questions about your own USD email, calendar, and documents in Google Drive. Access Gemini through a web browser or via its mobile app (iOS and Android).
