Core Advanced Writing (CADW) Faculty Workshop

The CADW Faculty Workshop is designed to support faculty teaching upper-division courses that carry a Core Advanced Writing (CADW) attribute. The purpose of this workshop is to help faculty design and implement curricula that satisfy the CADW learning outcomes, as they are defined in the newly developed CADW Rubric.

This requirement can be met by attending a once-a-semester faculty workshop hosted by the Writing Program at USD. This three-hour workshop will introduce faculty to rhetorical scholarship on teaching writing in the disciplines (WID), provide a detailed overview of the CADW Rubric, and provide hands-on workshopping of writing assignments, scaffolding exercises, and class-specific grading criteria.

Who should attend this class?

  • Faculty new to USD who will be teaching CADW courses
  • Existing USD faculty teaching CADW courses for the first time
  • Faculty proposing a new CADW course for approval with the Core Curriculum Committee (CCC)
  • Any faculty interested in learning how to apply the new CADW Rubric to clarify learning outcomes and grading criteria for their upper-division writing assignments
  • Any faculty interested in participating in a hands-on workshop to improve writing assignments in their upper division courses
