Mathematics Learning Outcomes

Math at USD prepares the next generation of mathematicians and educators to rise above. To learn how to solve complex problems and then master them.

Learning outcomes

1. Working knowledge: Students will demonstrate a working knowledge of selected topics from calculus, linear algebra and distribution of other branches of mathematics.
2. Proofs and arguments: Students will demonstrate the ability to determine the validity of a given argument, and be able to construct mathematical proofs independently.
3. Problem solving: Students will demonstrate the ability to solve problems, including applications outside of mathematics.
4. Mathematical communication: Students will demonstrate the ability to communicate mathematical ideas clearly. They will use correct mathematical terminology and proper mathematical notation.
5. Modeling (applied emphasis only): Students will abstract real world problems and frame them through a mathematical lens.
