Italian Studies at USD prepares the next generation of responsible global citizens by promoting critical cultural awareness and a reflection on power relations and inequalities, and by encouraging the creation of bonds of understanding beyond the limits of geographic borders.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Achieve advanced-level communication skills in Italian according to ACTFL proficiency standards.
  2. Effectively navigate diverse cultural contexts and perspectives in the Italian-speaking world.
  3. Understand historical significance and contemporary relevance of figures, texts and tendencies in literature and other forms of cultural production (e.g., film, music, etc.) in the Italian-speaking world.
  4. Critically analyze a text (e.g., literary, cinematic, musical, etc.) using thorough research techniques, interdisciplinary knowledge and innovative thinking.
