The Alcalá Review
The Alcalá Review is the official literary journal of USD, committed to fostering creative community by showcasing exceptional creative works by undergraduate students, and through hosting a variety of literary events through USD’s English Department.

Sigma Tau Delta
Sigma Tau Delta (STD) is the International English Honors Society, and the USD chapter is Alpha Nu Mu. We live up to the ideals of community involvement, cultural exchange and engagement, fellowship and pursuit of knowledge through action with our events each semester. STD has a number of events including editing round-tables, literary movie nights, a Christmas party and book drives. With these events in mind we invite you to apply to become part of this amazing community of bookworms and writers alike!
Eligibility
- Must be majoring or minoring in English
- Must have completed at least 2 courses beyond First Year Writing 150 (FYW 150)
- Must have a 3.4 or above in English courses
- Must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA
- Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student
- Must apply at least one semester before graduation
- Must be engaged in the society's activities in a meaningful way
Membership
Members pay a one-time fee of $90 for their international membership fee and local chapter dues.

Cropper Creative Writing Contest
The Lindsay J. Cropper Creative Writing Contest happens every Spring semester. Submissions are accepted for poetry, fiction and nonfiction.
All currently enrolled USD undergraduate students are eligible to submit to the contest. All majors are welcome to submit (contest eligibility is not limited to English majors or creative writing emphasis students). You do not have to have taken any creative writing courses at USD to be eligible, but we seek and encourage submissions from students already actively practicing creative writing, whether on their own or within an official creative writing curriculum.
One winner and one Honorable Mention in each genre will be chosen by judges. The winner and Honorable Mention in each genre will be published in The Alcalá Review. Winners will receive a $300 prize.
