Corinne Hoare

Corinne Hoare is an integrated communications specialist and a sought-after educator for her style of teaching and for the unique learning experience she creates.

She began her career in Washington D.C. practicing strategic and crisis communication at the highest levels of government. She directed the communications at the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB), the federal government’s most powerful agency of 500 people, during the 2008 financial crisis. Prior to the White House, she served as a press secretary for a Colorado member of Congress and as the deputy press secretary for the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

She also traveled extensively in direct support of the President of the United States as a presidential advance representative where she worked with international media on five continents executing economic summits, press conferences, and bilateral meetings as part of official U.S. delegations.

After government, she received her M.A. in Strategic Communication at American University (AU) and then was recruited to become a full-time faculty member in AU's School of Communication. She taught public relations, crisis communications, media relations, management and leadership, social media strategies and tactics, and writing courses to both undergraduate and graduate students and was awarded by the American University Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America as Outstanding Faculty Member in 2020.

In addition to teaching, she helped steer the Department of Public Communication during a period of great transformation and growth through strategic partnerships and industry awards, student recruitment and retention, and serving on search committees that successfully hired top faculty.
