This degree benefits professionals looking to solve problems within their chosen field using a new, data-driven mindset to make better business decisions. No, the Knauss School of Business at the University of San Diego has implemented a test-optional policy for all MBA and specialized master’s degree applications. While all students are encouraged to take the GMAT or GRE, it is not a requirement to apply to any of our MBA or specialized master's programs.

However, you may submit GMAT or GRE scores if you would like. If you plan on submitting scores, the exam must be taken within the last 5 years. If you plan to submit a GRE score, leave the GMAT information blank on the application and request that ETS submit your official score report to USD.

If you have not yet taken the GMAT or GRE but plan to do so, you can still submit your application. On your application, indicate the date that you are scheduled to take the exam. Note that the admissions committee will hold off on a final review of your application until your GMAT or GRE test score has arrived.

Math/business-related coursework: Students are required to have a semester of college-level statistics with a grade of “B-” or better. This requirement must be completed before starting classes.

Upon acceptance into the MSBA program, all incoming students are required to complete a set of preparatory assignments in Python, Database and Statistics, which students must finish before the program starts.

Work experience: We do not require professional experience to apply to the program, but it is definitely an asset. The average amount of work experience for the current cohort of students is 2 years with a range of 0 to 6.5 years.

No. The Office of Graduate Admission will automatically pull your USD undergraduate transcript after your MBA application has been submitted. Please note they are not able to pull transcripts from USD’s School of Law or Continuing Education.

The Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA) will waive up to twelve (12) units of MSBA requirements for USD undergraduate students with a declared business major, enrolled in the BBA/MSBA Combined Degree Program, who meet the criteria below.

For USD undergraduate, non-business (BBA) students, the MSBA program will waive up to six (6) units of MSBA coursework as long as the criteria below is met.

Effective for the cohort entering Fall 2024, the MSBA program will waive coursework based upon successful completion of undergraduate coursework as follows:

Criteria to have MSBA coursework waived:

• Undergraduate students must apply and confirm enrollment into the MSBA program before finishing the undergraduate degree. Applications are accepted during a student’s senior year as an undergraduate, following the standard application procedure for admission to the MSBA program.
• Grades of B or better are required for the undergraduate courses above to waive MSBA courses.
• Students must fulfill all other requirements for the MSBA degree.

In addition to the application requirements listed above, international students must also:

• Submit an official international transcript evaluation (also called a foreign credential evaluation) from an approved evaluation service
• Submit TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo English exam scores
• If admitted, you will need to submit additional documents to receive an I-20, which you can use to apply for an F1 student visa

If admitted, international students are required to participate in the International Student Introductory Program (ISIP) unless you have worked or attended a school in the U.S for two or more years. The program prepares you for a successful transition into a graduate level business program and the University of San Diego community. The program takes place early to mid-August, before fall classes begin.

Note: Students who do not attend ISIP are required to attend the International Student Orientation in August (hosted by USD’s Office of International Students)

For applicants educated in India, three-year bachelor's degrees earned in Division I and II at institutions accredited by the NAAC with a minimum grade of A are typically viewed by World Education Services (WES) as equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's degree. Applicants with a three-year degree from India that does not meet the requirements above can complete a one-year post-graduate certificate program or a master's program in India to meet the USD’s academic entrance requirements.

You can request to defer admission to the MSBA program for one year. Requests must be made in writing and are granted on a case-by-case basis by the admissions committee.

Scholarship recipients who defer admission will be guaranteed a scholarship for the following academic year. However, the total amount of your original scholarship award may change depending on scholarship funds available the year you begin your program.

It is highly recommended that students do not work during the program. Students will complete 36 units in ten months (18 units a semester), including an international consulting project abroad during the spring.

The MSBA program is a full-time, on-campus program. Currently, part-time and evening options are not offered.

Tuition for the MSBA program is based on a per unit fee. There are no additional fees for international students or non-California residents, since we are a private, tuition-based institution. USD and the Knauss School of Business offer many resources to help pay for tuition including scholarships and financial aid. These include low-interest loans to admitted students, thanks to agreements with our partner, Prodigy Finance.
