The Faculty Toolbox provides practical guidance, examples, and training to help faculty integrate AI into your course curriculum to support academic excellence, ethical conduct and meaningful student learning.

Setting Clear Expectations

Clear expectations for generative AI help build trust, reduce stigma, and encourage students to discuss their use openly. By communicating course expectations and modeling transparent, responsible AI practices, faculty can foster meaningful dialogue about AI’s appropriate use, limitations, and ethical implications.

The policies we create around the use of AI should preserve meaningful learning.

  1. The use of AI tools must adhere to existing policies including Responsible Use of University Computing Resources Policy.
  2. Students are expected to abide by the Honor Code and Academic Integrity policy.
  3. Faculty are asked to read the Honor Code and Academic Integrity policy and communicate, in writing, clear expectations to students on using generative AI in their courses.

Promoting AI Literacy

Helping students understand the opportunities and challenges of using AI in their academic work is essential to fostering ethical and responsible use. The following resources provide supplemental support for integrating AI literacy across the curriculum.

Designing for Authentic Assessment

Authentic assessment asks students to apply their knowledge in meaningful contexts and produce evidence of their reasoning, decision-making, and learning process. These approaches can strengthen learning while making it more difficult to substitute AI-generated output for genuine student work.
