Academic and Non-Academic Video Production

Instructional Media Services can assist with video recording, editing, and publishing to meet certain television and web video publishing standards including YouTube, Blackboard or your department’s web site. There are different publishing options available for video and podcasting.

Standard Procedures, Marketing, and Promotional Services

A minimum of three (3) weeks notice prior to your event is necessary for scheduling purposes. We will review your request and determine if we can handle the project or recommend our external partners.

There are different levels of video requests. Please read before submitting a request.

Level 1 - Academic Video Services

Academic video services is intended for teaching and learning purposes; in use by students in specific courses, posting inside Blackboard, and for review by students as a part of coursework assigned by instructors. There is no charge for filming and/or editing of academic coursework.

Level 2 - Non Academic Video Services

Non-Academic video services, such as for marketing, promotional and informational videos are:

$40 per hour for video setup, filming, and editing during 8:30 - 5 PM.

$60 per hour for AFTER hour and weekend rates of filming. Additional fee may apply to special projects during the weekends due to staff overtime. 

Any request for videotaping by USD departments outside of the classroom, seminars, presentations, lectures, or conferences taking places on campus require a departments' POETS code and are subject to review before the request is approved.

We make our best effort to schedule and support USD Non-Academic Requests within our calendar. However; in the event we're unable to provide support, we can suggest a list of external video support provides whom you can work directly to take care of your projects.

Level 3 - Public Event Video Services

Public seminars, social and entertainment events, public or private conferences by interal departments or outside agencies - even in conjunction with a USD department that are intended for public or private distribution - or open to the general public are not within the scope of USD's Instructional Media Services.

However, Instructional Media Services may provide you with a list of external videographers who provide videotaping services.

You will need to submit a request by filling out the production request form. A staff member will contact you to confirm the production and to begin the scheduling process.
