
Located in Founders Hall, Room 123, the purpose of the Rigsby Language and Culture Commons is to promote meaningful and creative interactions through the study of languages, literatures and other forms of cultural production.
The Commons emphasizes direct collaboration among students and faculty, and also supports the integration of technology to enhance language learning and teaching. This multifunctional space hosts language tutoring and exchanges, film screenings, lectures, literary/cultural events and project-based assignments, among others.
The Commons is a space dedicated to fostering a community of active language learners and promoting the mission of the Department of Languages, Cultures and Literatures.
Reserve a space
Please make reservation requests with a minimum of 72-hours advance notice. Last-minute reservations will be accommodated, if possible, but are not guaranteed. Before submitting your request, check the calendar below for available dates/times. Note that when a "+" link is present, you will need to click on it to view the full day's schedule.
Priority is given to meetings or events organized by the faculty of Languages, Cultures and Literatures and student organizations housed in our department. We welcome events organized by USD faculty or groups from outside of the department as long as the function relates to our mission and the purpose of the Commons.
The department is open 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., Monday-Friday. After hours access is by key coded USD ID card. The procedure for authorizing Campus Card Services to code your card may take up to two full weeks. Coding will be good for the day of the event only.
Please leave the space neat and orderly after your event, disposing of any trash and recycling, turning off equipment and overhead projectors, closing the windows and making sure the door is shut upon departure.
