Statement of Purpose
We strive to provide a welcoming program that offers quality services, student engaged activities, and supportive facilities to cultivate a holistic and inclusive USD community. Our activities unite the university’s diverse communities into an environment of fellowship, social cooperation, teamwork, and respect. Some of our long- standing programs connect the history of our alumni with current university life. These three aspects serve to bring the university community together in a spirit of belonging and pride. We support the wellness of our community through fitness and recreational opportunities that encourage wellness as a product of an active, healthy lifestyle. The nature of our co-curricular programs enhances student learning and development through experiential opportunities of leadership, stewardship, cooperative participation, student innovations and informative activities. The values of dignity, justice and equality are at the forefront of our interactions, as we listen to and implement the needs and interests of our campus community. Our department recognizes the importance of learning for our participants and staff and the need to identify, promote and accomplish learning outcomes for both. Through this process and tied to assessment, the department continues to grow, change and improve the quality of its offerings. The richness of Campus Recreation is seen in the large number of satisfied participants and is directly tied to retention as well as recruitment of students, alumni satisfaction and employee connection to the University. |
