Confidential CARE Advocate
Campus Assault Resources and Education (CARE)

Megan “Meg” Martin (she/her) serves as USD’s Confidential CARE Advocate. Meg provides direct support to students who may have been impacted by sexual and/or relationship violence. She is available to accompany students in accessing on and off-campus resources and accommodations. Meg is also able to support students in processing their experience.

Meg’s "Why" for doing this work:

I believe my "why" stems from personal experience and years of my career path of outdoor, mental health and social justice spaces, where I have witnessed marginalized communities impacted at the heart of sexual and relationship violence. I intend to do my part to decolonize wellness, acknowledge and promote change to oppressive systems. I strive to make an impact on the culture around this work, to promote intersectionality through access, and inclusivity for all races, religions, cultures, sexual orientations and genders. I believe that we all have the inner capacity to heal and I see my job not as a healer but as a human being cultivating a space for people to find their inner healer. I believe that in community, we can awaken the healer from within, and begin.

Meg holds a Master of Arts in Counseling from University of San Diego, a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Policy, Institutions, Behavior with a minor in Youth Development and Juvenile Justice from Rutger's University and holds her 250-hour Yoga Teacher Training Certification with an additional Trauma Informed Yoga certificate. Meg holds a certification for Sexual Assault Counselor as defined in California Evidence Code § 1035.2 and/or Domestic Violence Counselor as defined in Evidence Code § 1037.1 Meg has extensive and diverse experience with survivors, LGBTQIA+ communities, and adolescents, ranging from high school to college-age youth, as well as youth in detention settings.

Meg is a weekend warrior of outdoor adventure and can often be found surfing and rock climbing. Meg is an avid traveler and is fortunate to travel to Guatemala, Costa Rica, New Zealand, Australia, Indonesia, Ireland and many National Parks in the US.
