Kroc School tuition discounts
The Joan B. Kroc School of Peace Studies is pleased to offer the following tuition discounts and benefits exclusive to Kroc students enrolled in in-person programs.
Americorps Alumni who served full-time (as defined by Americorps) are eligible for a 25% tuition discount to all Kroc School graduate programs. Americorps Alumni who served less than full-time are eligible for a tuition discount that matches their Segal Award.
Staff, administrators and students from any of the designated Ashoka U Changemaker Campuses are eligible for a 25% tuition discount to all Kroc School graduate programs.
Employees of the County of San Diego are eligible for a 25% tuition discount to all Kroc School graduate programs and an application fee waiver.
Colgate University students and alumni are eligible for a 25% tuition discount to all in-person Kroc School graduate programs and an application fee waiver.
Soka University students and alumni are eligible for a 25% tuition discount to all Kroc School graduate programs and an application fee waiver.
25% Tuition Discount for Swarthmore College Students and Alumni at the Kroc School of Peace Studies.
If you are an alumnus of the University of San Diego, you are eligible for a 25% tuition discount to all Kroc School graduate programs.
Alumni of the University of San Diego's Restorative Justice Facilitation and Leadership Certificate program are eligible for a 25% tuition discount on the MA in Restorative Justice Facilitation and Leadership (MARJ)
Heravi Peace Institute at Utah State University students and alumni are eligible for a 25% tuition discount to all in-person Kroc School graduate programs and an application fee waiver.
USD provides a 50% tuition discount to Catholic religious priests or nuns, which applies to all Kroc School graduate programs. This discount also applies to the tuition for auditing a course.
Returning Peace Corp Volunteers are eligible for a 50% discount on tuition for Kroc School MAPJ program. Coverdell Fellows also can inquire to waive the application fee and apply 6 units of Peace Corps experience towards the degree.
Alumni of a Fulbright Student Program are eligible for a 25% tuition discount to all Kroc School graduate programs. If you are currently a Fulbright Scholar, the discount does not apply and the Kroc School will work with the IIE to fulfill our commitment.
The tuition remission program continues the University’s tradition of encouraging and supporting the educational development of its employees, their spouses, registered domestic partners, dependent children and dependent children of registered domestic partners. The MA in Peace and Justice Program is the only program eligible for tuition remission. Please visit Human Resources for details.
Participants of the Certified Employee-Owned program are eligible for a 25% tuition discount to all Kroc School graduate programs.
Employees of non-profit organizations are eligible for a 25% tuition discount to all Kroc School graduate programs.
Members of the National Latino Peace Officers Association, San Diego Metro Chapter are eligible for a 25% tuition discount to the MASI and MAPJ programs.
Teach for America alumni are eligible for a 25% tuition discount and application fee waiver.
Merit Awards
Kroc School Merit Scholarships
The Kroc School awards merit scholarships to admitted students based on their admissions application materials. Please be sure to select "yes" when asked in the program application if you would like to be considered for merit awards, are eligible for tuition discounts, or would like to be considered for any fellowships.
Private Scholarships
The Kroc School is pleased to offer privately-funded endowed and/or current-use scholarships to deserving students, thanks to the generosity of its alumni and benefactors. Each year, newly admitted Kroc School students will be considered for these scholarships in an application*.

The University of San Diego awards USD Graduate Grants, a need-based scholarship, after a student is admitted. The following details were provided by the USD Office of Financial Aid. Please email torerohub@sandiego.edu for more information.
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid is a form completed by current and prospective graduate students in the United States to determine their eligibility for student financial aid. Please visit the USD Office of Financial Aid for details.
Prospective students can complete a FAFSA and include as many schools as they like on the application. The USD Office of Financial Aid will only process financial aid offers for students that have been admitted.
The need-based award for graduate students is the USD Graduate Grant. The USD Office of Financial Aid typically begins processing in early March for the upcoming school year, then as students are admitted and new FAFSAs are received, on a rolling basis.
When a financial aid offer is available, students receive an email notification. The actual financial aid offer is available in the My Financial Aid portal. When the offer is available, students receive an email with directions to access the financial aid portal. Please check your USD email account for these notifications.
The need-based grant may be impacted by awards from the department as it relates to the student's financial need. The amount also gets adjusted based on any changes in units. Below is the policy that students must acknowledge with their USD Graduate Grant award.
- Eligibility for the USD Graduate Grant is based on financial need and requires a minimum enrollment of 6 units per semester. Additional scholarships received may replace USD Graduate Grant funding based on program eligibility.
- The amount of the USD Graduate Grant is based on units of enrollment. For priority consideration, units must be confirmed with the Office of Financial Aid by July 31, 2020. Changes to units after July 31, 2020 will not increase the award amount, but a decrease in units may result in a decrease to the USD Graduate Grant award.
- Renewal of the USD Graduate Grant is not guaranteed each year. Application is based on submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by USD’s priority deadline, April 1.

Additional Opportunities
In addition to scholarships, MARJ students also have the opportunity to work on campus and with Kroc School faculty and changemaking organizations in internships, fellowships and assistantships.
