A Gateway to Career Opportunities
On April 8, 2025, the University of San Diego's Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate hosted its highly anticipated 23rd Annual Real Estate Career Expo, a marquee event that brought together top talent and industry professionals. The Career Expo, held on campus, served as a dynamic platform for students and companies to connect, network and discuss potential career opportunities in the competitive world of commercial real estate.

The event was attended by 65 real estate employers and 65 students from the USD Knauss School of Business, each eager to make an impact and explore the diverse career paths within the commercial real estate industry.

Speed-Networking: A Unique Opportunity
The format of the event was an engaging six-minute "speed-networking" session, designed to maximize interactions and provide students with a chance to hone their interviewing skills in a fast-paced, high-energy environment. Students were matched with company representatives in brief but impactful six-minute rounds. This fast-paced structure enabled students to introduce themselves to a wide variety of employers, learn about the diverse roles available and refine their networking skills. Whether students are interested in property management, investment analysis, brokerage or corporate real estate, the event provided a snapshot of the opportunities that lie within the commercial real estate sector.

As the rounds ended, students were given the opportunity to follow up with any company representatives they hadn't yet had the chance to meet. This allowed for deeper engagement and more personalized discussions about specific career interests. For many students, it was the perfect chance to identify companies they were particularly drawn to, offering them the chance to further explore potential job fits. The event provided students access to some of the top minds in the industry.

Résumé Book: A Critical Resource
To ensure that employers had a comprehensive understanding of the students they were meeting, a résumé book containing detailed profiles of all participating students was distributed to company representatives. The résumé book allowed companies to review the qualifications and career aspirations of each student, and it offers the opportunity for ongoing dialogue after the event.

Successful Outcomes
Many students receivee calls for follow-up interviews, a promising step toward securing internships or full-time positions in the commercial real estate field. The event provides opportunities for USD real estate students to build important relationships with industry leaders, who offer the students valuable insights on career opportunities and the skills needed to succeed in commercial real estate.
