CAI’s 2019 A Child's Right to Counsel Report Mentioned in IndyStar
SAN DIEGO (January 19, 2022) – University of San Diego (USD) School of Law Children’s Advocacy Institute’s (CAI) 2019 report entitled “A Child's Right to Counsel: A National Report Card on Legal Representation for Abused & Neglected Children, 4th Ed.” was mentioned in an article discussing the state of Indiana’s bill (Senate Bill 180). CAI’s Right to Counsel Report ranked Indiana 51st in the nation for its systems providing legal representation to abused and neglected children.
According to the article, Indiana’s Senate Bill 180 would require a judge to appoint an attorney to represent cases involving children in need of services and termination of parental rights. Currently, a judge can choose whether to appoint an attorney to represent a child in these cases.
