Andrew Nosal, adjunct assistant professor of environmental and ocean sciences at USD, was featured in an episode of the National Geographic Channel Program “When Sharks Attack.” The episode highlighting his work is called “Chaos in California” and focuses on a mysterious increase in shark bites around San Diego back in 2009.

"Sharks are a natural and important component of the marine ecosystem off San Diego," said Nosal. "We must remember there is no such thing as 'shark-infested' waters. Sharks live in the water-- that is their home. They cannot infest their own home. We should be excited to have sharks off our coast because most species are completely harmless to humans and their presence is a sign that the marine environment is healthy and balanced."

The episode aired Wednesday, July 7, 2021. It will air at a later date on Disney+. For more information on Andrew Nosal's media appearances, head to the USD Media Relations page "USD in the News."
