Lindsay J. Cropper Memorial Writers Series: Miriam Toews

Miriam Toews is the author of eight bestselling novels and two works of nonfiction. She is a winner of the Governor General’s Award for Fiction, the Libris Award for Fiction Book of the Year, the Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize, and the Writers’ Trust Engel/Findley Award. Her bestselling novel Women Talking, a finalist for the Governor General’s Literary Award, was adapted into an Oscar-winning film. Her latest novel, Fight Night, was a finalist for the Giller Prize and the Atwood Gibson Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize, and a national bestseller. Her last book, A Truce That Is Not Peace, was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award for Autobiography. Her next novel, Examination for Discovery, will be published in August 2027.

The Lindsay J. Cropper Memorial Writers Series and the Lindsay J. Cropper Center for Creative Writing were established in 2004 by Barrie and Dorothy Cropper in memory of their daughter Lindsay, an English major, aspiring writer and alumna of USD. The purpose of the center is to foster the appreciation and practice of Creative Writing at the University of San Diego by hosting an annual writers series, sponsoring writing workshops and granting awards for Creative Writing.
