Torero Entrepreneurship Challenge (TECh)

Blue flame from orange match spark

At the University of San Diego's Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering, we are creating an entrepreneurial mindset that is pervasive in our students, faculty, industry partners, and across campus. The Torero Entrepreneurship Challenge (TECh) is an annual entrepreneurial competition designed to engage, educate, mentor and award technology innovators.

Every student venture begins with a single idea. Through structured pathways, teams are mentored by industry experts and supported by professional networks, gaining hands-on experience as they transform their concept into reality. This journey culminates in the opportunity to pitch their technology-based business to industry professionals and angel investors.

With generous gifts from entrepreneurial and technology leaders, USD's Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering offers The Larry Kull Endowed Student Award in Engineering and Entrepreneurship to reward game-changing projects that embody technological innovation. From the TECh Orientation session through the TECh competition, budding entrepreneurs will be guided down a proven entrepreneurial path to sharpen their venture-building skills — ultimately leading to an opportunity to compete for $21,000 in seed money.

Join us virtually on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, to support our finalists! For more details, visit TECh.
