USD Chemistry and Biochemistry Professor Timothy Clark Awarded Organic Syntheses Research Grant

Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry Timothy Clark, PhD, was recently awarded an Organic Syntheses, Inc. Grant for Summer Research at a Principally Undergraduate Institution. The two-year award will provide funding to support a minimum of ten weeks of undergraduate‑faculty research, including funding for laboratory materials as well as an annual $6,000 stipend for a student collaborator that will serve as Clark's Org Syn Summer Scholar.
"I am very excited for this small grant that will help us to initiate a new project in my research group," says Clark. Clark’s project, Regioselective C–H Borylation of Aryl Germanes: Accessing Arenes with Orthogonal Coupling, was selected from applications across the U.S. and Canada, and received strong evaluations for its creativity, technical quality and impact.
The evaluation committee also highlighted Clark’s exceptional mentoring record, including numerous undergraduate co-authored publications, frequent student presentations and a strong history of guiding undergraduates toward successful research careers.
This award underscores the University of San Diego’s commitment to hands-on undergraduate research and highlights the strength of faculty‑student collaboration within the sciences. The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry congratulates Professor Clark on this achievement and looks forward to the discoveries and student successes this grant will support.
