As a McNair Scholar you are part of a select group of USD students who receive professional development services and training in research. McNair Scholars selected to participate in the McNair Summer Research Program will work individually with a faculty mentor of their choice to develop an ambitious research project. The 10-week research program consists of individual research, professional and identity development workshops, and GRE preparation. All McNair Summer Scholars who meet requirements will receive a $6,000 stipend and are eligible for paid summer housing.
The McNair Summer Research Program is only the beginning of your development as a McNair Scholar. We provide comprehensive support throughout the academic year and your graduate application process. McNair services include:
- Specialized mentoring provided by a faculty mentor in your selected academic field
- Intensive academic, career, and financial advising
- Assistance in securing admission and financial aid for enrollment in graduate programs
- Travel funding to participate in national research conferences and graduate school visits
- Paid summer research
- Funds for research supplies
- Tutoring to help you master course content
- Graduate Record Exam (GRE) preparation
- Graduate school application fee waivers
- Complete campus CRP requirements
