The Faculty Teaching Studio is designed to accommodate the hybrid, hyflex, and remote teaching so faculty can have more options to produce instructional videos, mini-lecture series using Panopto to flip their class, or use the Learning Glass to depict concepts or prototype processes. Each station features the latest and very specific HD camera, lighting, and microphone technology so faculty can use the stations on their own.
Station 1: Classroom Instruction
The Classroom Instruction Station allows you to record as if you were standing in front of a podium in the classroom, with unobtrusive professional lighting and microphones positioned above. You can also record sitting down at a table for recording sit-down presentations and guest interviews. You can record with Panopto using the Mac computer, connect your own laptop to the built-in camera and microphone, or record directly to a drive to take the file with you or have it edited later.
- Teach lecture style using the only the podium, whiteboard, or both
- Show the document camera, computer screen, or your own slides

- Write directly on the monitor screen with the podium stylist pen
With this station you can also record with a:
- Teleprompter after providing a script to a staff member
- Green screen backdrop so you can edit in backgrounds later
- Wide presentation table so you can sit down and deliver your lecture
- Single or multiple microphone and camera setup for podcasts and guest interview
Along with being able to record directly into Panopto, you can also record HD MP4 files directly into the computer and take the files with you or upload to Google Drive to edit later.

- Avoid wearing green if you plan on using the green screen.

Station 2: Learning Glass
The Learning Glass Station gives you the ability to write out material while facing towards the student, giving a more natural and interactive viewing experience. You can choose to record the Learning Glass, your laptop, or both simultaneously. The image is then inverted while recording so your students watching the lectures see the written information the correct way.
- Give the look of a one-on-one review session where you can be seen and heard just as you would in class
- Explain concepts that may be easier to convey in graphical formats, icons, and symbols.
- Talk and write without turning back and forth to a traditional whiteboard
- Break up lectures into smaller partitions with the glass size being limited to how much can be written
Insert a USB drive and start recording. If you don't have a USB to start the recording, Media Services can provide one. When you are finished you can leave with the MP4 video file on your USB drive or upload the file to your Panopto lecture capture software or Google Drive to edit later.

- Wear a shirt without any words on it and that allows you to attach a wireless mic 6-8 inches below your mouth.
- Avoid shirts that have fine textures or patterns.
- If you are bringing a laptop to connect you must use your available HDMI output.
- The recording time is 3.99 GB for every 1 hour and 10 minutes of recording.
- A test recording is highly recommended before you start your first recording so you can see how the final video will look and sound.
- No extra software drivers or downloads are necessary to use this station with your laptop. There is a preview monitor available so you can see yourself.
- If you want to record with your own USB the drive must be formatted as FAT 32 (Mac/PC compatible).
- If you bring a new USB drive a staff member can reformat the drive if needed.
- A staff member can provide a USB one for you during the duration of your booking. This is the recommended workflow. Please remember to leave the drive at the station when you leave.
- You can upload your video files before you leave the studio by plugging the USB drive into your laptop and uploading the files.
- If you don't have a laptop you can upload the files from one of the other stations.
Station 3: Web Presenter
The Web Presenter Station allows you to sit down and start recording with Panopto on a Mac laptop or by connecting your own laptop. The system turns on a cinema camera, microphone, and lighting with the push of a button.

You can also bring your own computer to record as long as you have available an USB or USB-C inputs on your computer.

- The station has a fixed lens so instead of moving the camera around to adjust to your height you can adjust the seat up or down.
- A Mac laptop with PowerPoint, Keynote, Zoom, and Panopto installed is provided for you.
- You can bring your own laptop and plug the provided USB cables into your computer for audio and video.
- No extra software drivers or downloads are necessary to use this station with your laptop. There is a preview monitor available so you can see yourself.

Contact ims@sandiego.edu if you have questions about the studio. When you book your station a staff member will prep your station ahead of time. If it is your first time a staff member will be available at the beginning to walk you through the station. Our staff will be on standby for support at the beginning of the scheduled time every time you book beyond that and depending on the request can continue to meet you in the studio if you require assistance.
