Presidential Task Force on Immigration

Recommendations of Presidential Task Force

The Presidential Task Force on Immigration was established December 2016 by President James T. Harris in response to the national dialogue on immigration policy and enforcement. The Task Force is charged with examining USD’s efforts to support and protect the immigrant and refugee campus community, including DACA and undocumented students, employees, and family members.

Since then, the Task Force created a broad set of recommendations to support and protect the USD community. These were informed by the voices of campus community members, higher-education associations, community leaders, and peer institutions.

The Task Force helps advance and monitor progress made on the recommendations and collaborates with Catholic, education and social service organizations to make sure the needs of the campus community are met. Furthermore, it promotes support services on our campus and within our local communities for those who are concerned about their immigration status.

In light of quickly evolving immigration policies and procedures, USD leverages its teaching, research and thought leadership to foster dialogue and action that upholds access and inclusion for immigrant communities on campus and in the border region. As a Contemporary Catholic University, We will continue to demand comprehensive immigration reform that embodies our values of compassion, justice, diversity and inclusion.

Sincerely,

The Presidential Task Force on Immigration
