Meet William Dow ’15
Will Dow, a junior in the electrical engineering program at USD’s new Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering, walked into Frank Jacobitz’s office his freshman year looking for a way to bring his classroom lessons to life. He walked out with an invitation to be part of an ongoing research project mapping hundreds of blood vessels in the human eye. Dow, who will be the first in his family to finish college, has immersed himself in the Torero experience, as president of the Student Alumni Association, and as founder and captain of the Golf Club.
Meet Laura Gilbert ’14
Laura Gilbert is a student in the Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science’s MEPN program, a master’s program geared toward students who have bachelor’s degrees in other fields and want to become registered nurses. Gilbert, a Founders’ Endowed Scholarship recipient, earned a degree in public health education, decided to pursue a career in nursing after caring for her mom following a surgery. Today she’s doing externships at local hospitals and even took a trip with other students to the Dominican Republic to provide basic health care for hundreds of school-age children.
