Chapter Philanthropy and Fundraising

Chapters are expected to host philanthropy and fundraising events that support their national or local causes. The Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life (OFSL) provides guidelines and resources to help chapters plan events that are safe, compliant, and impactful.

Student Org. Fundraising Policies

Important Student Org. Fundraising Policies: You can find the full list in the Student Org Handbook.

  • No personal or non-approved payment platforms (Venmo, CashApp, Zelle, PayPal, etc.) may be used to collect funds.
  • No raffles, sweepstakes, lotteries, etc. are allowed.
    • Silent Auctions, equal opportunity drawings, or giveaways are allowed.
      • Equal Opportunity Drawing
        • The term “raffle” is not used.
        • The flyers clearly indicate that participation is voluntary and framed as a “FREE DRAWING.”
        • The word “donation” is included appropriately alongside the suggested amount.
        • All other necessary information, as outlined in the policy (such as event details and organizational name), has been included.
  • No sale of items prohibited by the USD policy.
  • All philanthropic and fundraising events are expected to be alcohol-free.

Event & Programs with Minors

When hosting events that include minors, there may be additional requirements

  • Activities and programs in which minors (those under 18 years of age, including children) will be present and participating (both on USD property or at off-campus locations) are considered "Covered Programs" and subject to additional requirements, including registration, background checks, and child safety online training.

Approved Funding/Payment Platforms

Below are free and user-friendly funding/payment systems for philanthropy and fundraising event for chapters.

  • CrowdChange
    • For most chapter philanthropy activities, including tabling, events, etc., both on and off campus
    • If your chapter does not currently have a Crowdchange account and would like one, reach out to fsl@sandiego.edu
  • ASG E-storefront
    • Must use this link when sharing: https://commerce.cashnet.com/USDASGCLUB
    • For internal chapter financial transactions (Council dues, co-sponsorships, etc.) or payment of USD services (reservation costs, catering, etc.)
  • Changefunding
    • Hosted by the Office of Annual Giving, submit an application to create a campaign
    • For fundraisers primarily designed to engage alumni.

If your national organizations or non-profit requires/prefers the chapter to use a different funding/payment system, please reach out to fsl@sandiego.edu for approval.
