Information for Tax Year 2019

The Tax Payer Relief Act of 1997 includes provisions for the American Opportunity Tax Credit and the Lifetime Learning Credit. Both credits allow certain taxpayers who have incurred qualified expenses for higher education to take a credit against their federal income tax liability. Educational institutions are required by law to provide information to students who qualify for the education credits. Schools, colleges, and universities report this information to the IRS and to students on Form 1098-T.

The 1098-T is a tuition statement issued to students and the IRS at the beginning of each year. This form may be used by federal tax filers to determine eligibility for Hope and Lifetime Learning tax credits. Receipt of a 1098-T form does not mean you are necessarily eligible for tax credits. The 1098-T serves as a tuition statement summary and is informational only. Your personal financial records serve as official supporting documentation for a federal tax return.

USD has partnered with ECSI to deliver 1098-T Tuition Statements for 2019 tax reporting.

You can now give consent to receive your 1098-T electronically. Students who have not given electronic consent will receive the 1098-T form at their current mailing address before January 31st each year.
