Dr. Nedeljko Golubovic, a native of Pljevlja, Montenegro, is an assistant professor in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program. Dr. Golubovic received his doctorate in Counselor Education and Practice from Georgia State University. Dr. Golubovic holds an M.S. in Marriage and Family Counseling and a B.A. in Psychology from Fresno State. Dr. Golubovic also was an intercollegiate athlete and played Division I basketball as a Fresno State Bulldog.

In addition to his role as an assistant professor, Dr. Golubovic serves as a Program Director for two federally funded grants with combined funding over $2.8M. The first grant he is directing is the Opioid Workforce Expansion Program – Professional. The focus of this grant is the enhancement of training for students preparing to become behavioral health professionals with a focus on Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) and other Substance Use Disorders (SUD). Dr. Golubovic also is a Program Director for the Behavioral Health Workforce Education and Training. The focus of this program is on improving the training of the behavioral health workforce and increasing access to behavioral health services for underserved populations.

The primary goal of Dr. Golubovic’s scholarly work is the further exploration of addiction issues and trauma. More specifically, Dr. Golubovic is interested in assessing the intersection between addiction and trauma and examining the consequences of stigmatization and bias related to both areas. Dr. Golubovic co-authored an addiction counseling textbook titled, Addiction Counseling: A Practical Approach. In the past, he was a part of the National Institute on Drug Abuse sponsored teams for monitoring drug trends in the United States. Regarding his teaching experiences, Dr. Golubovic has been dedicated to training master’s level professional counselors. He has experience teaching a variety of core counseling classes, but his primary focus has been on preparing future counselors to work with addiction and trauma-related issues. In 2020, Dr. Golubovic was awarded the Addictions/Offender Educator Excellence Award from the International Association of Addictions & Offender Counselors. Dr. Golubovic also has experience as an editorial board member, and he currently serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Counseling Leadership and Advocacy. Dr. Golubovic’s service involvement includes Treasurer for the International Association of Addictions & Offender Counselors, Committee Co-Chair of the Emerging Leaders Program for the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, Leadership Committee for the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, and a Grant Reviewer for the Chi Sigma Iota International, as well as involvement in several ACA divisions.
