Karina Westra is new to USD but not to higher ed. She began working at USD in November 2022 as an Academic Advisor in the College of Arts and Sciences. As part of the Dean’s Office, she supports students with registration questions and helps them track graduation requirements. She is also available for discussions about navigating the college process and considering life after college.
Westra taught writing and literature for 15 years at Point Loma Nazarene University. She was active in the First Year Writing program and the LEAP program, which offers its students additional academic and personal support while transitioning to college. In addition, she taught literature courses on Jane Austen and Women Writers. Before teaching, she started at PLNU as an administrative assistant to the Dean of General Education. Her work in higher education began as an Admissions Counselor at Calvin University.
