Audition for a theatre production
Students of all majors can audition for productions. Auditions for the first undergraduate fall production are held during the previous (spring) semester, and auditions for the second fall production are held early in the fall semester.
Auditions can be found on our callboard, adjacent to the Department of Theatre office (Camino Hall, Room 163), and on bulletin boards.
To audition:
- Schedule your audition.
- All audition forms will be sent to you electronically by the Executive Assistant. We will send an "Audition Information and Availability Form" via Google Forms, and a "Photo Release Form" via Docusign. Please complete these forms prior to your audition. You do not need to bring any forms or paperwork with you to your audition.
- Arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled audition time.
Get involved in theatre design and technology
Theatre isn’t just acting. Students can also be involved in productions by working backstage as a stage manager, lighting operator, dresser, sound operator or stagehand. No prior experience is required! Students can also work with professional designers as assistants in scenic, costume and lighting design.
If you’re interested in being involved in a show in one of these roles, please email Production Manager Nate Parde at nparde@sandiego.edu.
Commitment
Conflicts (such as evening classes) must be listed on audition forms and will be taken into account during casting. Depending on your role, the commitment could be 1-5 days per week, 1-4 hours per day/night during the week, and/or 1-5 hours on Saturdays.
Rehearsals will typically be held 6pm–10pm during the week and/or 12–5pm on Saturday, at the discretion of the director. (Some directors may choose to rehearse Monday – Friday whereas other directors may choose to rehearse Tuesday – Saturday.)
You must not have any conflicts during the performance dates of the production, and no conflicts during tech week preferred. All actors are required to participate in strike as scheduled. You will be required to register for a Theatre practicum credit if you are cast.
