Dr. Elisabeth Walcott has a BA in Psychology from Harvard and a PhD in Biological Sciences from the University of California, Irvine. She spent 15 years at The Neurosciences Institute in La Jolla working on synaptic plasticity in the neocortex. Elisabeth’s research interests include pharmacology of ion channel receptors, synaptic and intrinsic plasticity and neurodevelopmental disorders. She has been teaching at USD since 2014 and has previously taught Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience (NEUR305), Behavioral Neuroscience (NEUR310), the Behavioral Neuroscience capstone laboratory/writing course (NEUR470), and Evolutionary Psychology (PSYC 346).

Scholarly Work

Dr. Walcott has conducted research in several fields including circadian biology and aging, the structure and expression of neurotransmitter receptors, synaptic plasticity and early postnatal brain development.
