Classical Studies at USD prepares the next generation of classical studies experts in ancient languages or ancient history and culture. Students enrich their understanding of the world to inform their future.
Learning outcomes
- Demonstrate an awareness and appreciation of the various cultures of the ancient Mediterranean world, including Greek, Roman and Near Eastern civilizations.
- Engage with important ancient ideas, develop meaningful interpretations of them, and communicate their insights to others in ways that are readily understandable.
- Produce culturally and historically informed analyses of ancient texts and artifacts, as well as a grasp of the modern scholarship around them.
- Understand and critique the ways that subsequent cultures, including their own, reference and are informed by the ancient world.
- Acquire fundamental language skills in Latin or Ancient Greek (if taking Option 1).
