University of the Third Age (U3A) Current Program

The University of the Third Age (U3A) turns 50. This international movement aims for the education and stimulation of mainly retired members of the community — those in their third 'age' of life.

USD's University of the Third Age (U3A) program brings a holistic approach to learning and provides a great venue to meet new people and top experts from San Diego. U3A has historically been hosted on the USD campus bi-annually in January and June; however, since June 2020 the program has been held virtually due to the pandemic. Once participants can return to campus, we will continue to offer the program in a hybrid-format so attendees from outside of San Diego County can continue to attend.

Each U3A session is a three-week unique university experience that exposes attendees to some of San Diego's most sought-after experts in areas including medicine, technology, health, religion, government, business, military, not-for-profits, humanities and the arts. Each presentation is approximately 45 minutes and followed by a rich Q&A dialogue with the expert.

In addition to presentations, the program also takes you off campus to participate in field trips that engage you in experiential learning throughout San Diego County. Lastly, you can participate in an optional Technology Workshop where you learn how to operate your smart devices, including phones, tablets and social media applications, walking you through settings and general digital setup.
