The Whitcomb-MacFarland Museum Travel Fellowship for Art History Students
Available to
College of Arts and Sciences - Art History
Award
Candidate description
Any art history major (minors will be given secondary consideration) with at least a 3.0 grade point average can apply.
Interested majors should determine where (and when) they would like to travel, develop a compelling rationale for the research to be undertaken, and calculate the total amount of funding required to make such a trip possible. Applications will consist of the following:
- Letter describing qualifications, goals, and full itinerary;
- Budget (including transportation, lodging, food, entry fees);
- Current transcript.
Please submit applications to Dr. Derrick Cartwright at dcartwright@sandiego.edu
Purpose
The Whitcomb-MacFarland Fellowship was created to provide art history undergraduates with opportunities to experience superior museums and archives throughout the world. The fund was established through a generous bequest from Ann MacFarland, a former art history student at USD, in honor of her favorite professor, Therese Truitt Whitcomb. MacFarland and Whitcomb together envisioned a permanent resource that would generously support international and domestic travel without financial worry for any art history student of high academic potential.
More Information
All applicants are encouraged to check with USD’s Financial Aid Office in advance to ensure that their “ability to benefit” is approved.
