Black Student Resource Commons

Purpose

The Black Student Resource Commons (BSRC) is located on the fourth floor of the Student Life Pavilion. The BSRC strives not only to advocate for students, but also to support their holistic development. All students are welcome to explore and celebrate the richness of Black-African culture and cultivate a space where the tapestry of connectedness is honored and elevated.

History

The BSRC opened on December 9th, 2013 as a result of advocacy by faculty, staff, and students who recognized the need for such a center.

It is our hope that the BSRC will serve as an extension of home. We strive to create services tailored to the needs of our students. However, we also recognize that one space cannot be everything to every student. To that end, the BSRC is committed to working in partnership with other dedicated professionals, campus departments, and student organizations that are actively invested in seeing students THRIVE on and off campus.

BSRC Philosophy

In our physical space we strive to (be):

  • Socially conscious
  • Promote respectful authentic dialogue
  • Affirm the individual & collective
  • Create community ties
  • Empower the individual and the collective

We are here to see YOU succeed so feel free to take advantage of our physical space and services! If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us at bsrc@sandiego.edu.
