Mission Statement
The Associated Student Government Leadership Team serves the University of San Diego undergraduates as official representatives, who promote opportunities for growth and expression, address student issues, and enrich a diverse, inclusive, and engaged community.
Land Acknowledgement
We acknowledge that the land upon which the University of San Diego resides is part of the legacy of the Kumeyaay people. The spiritual traditions and enduring sovereignty of the Kumeyaay are the first that we acknowledge from this land. From there, we combine our Catholic foundations with respect for free inquiry and pursuit of truth as we foster a world of peace and justice.
Associated Student Government and Torero Program Board Overview
All undergraduate students belong to the Associated Student Government of the University of San Diego, a self-governing group that acts under the authority given by its approved Associated Student Government Constitution. Officers and members of the Associated Student Government Governance branch and the Torero Program Board are either elected or appointed by the undergraduate students. Under their leadership, the students plan and manage student issues, events, and funds. Through participation in committees, students help shape important University decisions.
Associated Student Government Branches
The Associated Student Government has four branches: Executive Branch, Legislative Branch, Judicial Branch, and Torero Program Board.
The Associated Student Government Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches serve as the student government. The ASG Executive Branch is comprised of the President, Vice President, Speaker of Senate, Finance Chair, Public Relations Chair, Torero Program Chair, Chief Justice, and Chief of Staff.
The Legislative Branch is comprised of thirty Academic, Residential, Commuter Senators, and At-Large Senators, including the Speaker Pro Tempore and the Clerk of the Senate. Senators assess the specific needs and concerns of the student population that resides on campus in order to represent and advocate those needs within the Associated Student Government Student Senate.
The Judicial Branch comprises of the Chief Justice, Parliamentarian, and Associate Justices. The Judiciary shall consider written disputes between the interpretation of all Associated Student Government Constitutions and Bylaws, as well as Robert’s Rules of Order.
As a whole, the ASG branches work together to solve student issues, financially support several campus services, facilitate communication between student organizations, and serves as the official student voice to the administration. As stated in the ASG Constitution, the Student Senate, which includes the academic, residential and commuter senators, are not members of the ASG Leadership Team but are crucial to the success of the ASG Governance branch.
The Torero Program Board (TPB) is the programming branch. The group plans and coordinates programs for the USD community in order to meet the social, educational, recreational, and cultural needs of the undergraduate student body.
