Pamela

Pamela Johnson, GSC Chair

Pamela is a second year Doctoral student in the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program for Adult/Family Nurse Practitioner at the Hahn School of Nursing. She is originally from Chicago, affectionately known as the “Windy City.” She is a U.S. Naval Officer and has proudly served in the military for fourteen years; eight years in the Army, six years in the Navy and still counting. Pamela attended the University of Illinois at Chicago and earned her first Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. She later decided to pursue her true aspiration, returned to school and received a second Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She loves the outdoors, spending time with her daughter, and Fara (her beautiful, purebred German Shepherd). They love to go for walks, and very long hikes. Pamela also enjoys working out, particularly Zumba workouts.

Allegra

Allegra Conway, GSC Vice Chair

Allegra is originally from sunny San Diego and received her B.S. degree in Biopsychology from UCSB. She is currently a 2nd year MEPN student and is steadily working towards her M.S. in Nursing. Apart from school Allegra's activities include competing in Master's swim meets, racing half marathons, and posting on her cooking blog leggycooks.com.

Benjamin

Benjamin Mendoza, GSC Secretary

Ben is in his first year of the MA Higher Education Leadership program. He is originally from Grandview, Washington and received his BA in Communication Studies from Seattle University in 2010. After graduating, Ben spent three years working at Seattle Central Community College before moving to beautiful San Diego, California. He is currently a Graduate Assistant in the United Front Multicultural Center and enjoying his work with students. Some of Ben's favorite activities include working out, reading, and blogging.

Afarin Dadkhah Tehrani, GSC Council Member

Afarin was born in Tehran, Iran, and as a teenager was part of the organization Dialogue Among Civilizations (DAC), which promotes understanding between cultures. She also worked with the organization Mahak, which assists children suffering from cancer, and taught English as a second language to high school students. She holds a bachelor‚ Äôs degree in English language and literature from Islamic Azad University of Tehran Central Branch. Afarin is currently studying and doing extensive research on Post-Conflict Peace Building in Middle East and North Africa.

Briana

Briana Riordan, GSC Council Member

Briana Riordan is currently a second year MEPN student in the Hahn
School of Nursing. She is originally from Seattle, Washington where
she attended Eastern Washington University. Here she received a
Bachelor's degree in Business-General Management and a second
Bachelor's degree in Spanish. She is passionate about running and is
currently training for her third full marathon in San Francisco in
October.

Allie

Allie Serrano, GSC Council Member

Allie is enjoying being at USD for her second year in the MA Higher Education Leadership program. She is a San Diego native and she graduate with a BA in History and Business from Loyola Marymount University in 2010. Allie spent two years in VA working in Undergraduate Admissions before coming back home to CA for graduate school. She is currently serving as a GA for Student Involvement at the Student Leadership and Involvement Center. When Allie is not at USD, which is rare, she loves to run, host dinner parties, and traveling wherever and whenever she can!

Evan

Evan is a second year law student who plans to practice employment law. He is originally from Pacific Grove, California and received a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from San Diego State University in 2010. Evan was an All-American cheerleader in high school and have collected over $300 in change I found on the ground.

Gina

Gina Stavrakakis, GSC Council Member

Gina started an International MBA in the Fall of 2012 and picked USD for all of the international opportunities offered in the program. Gina lived in German for a year during her undergrad and couldn't shake the travel bug! Gina spent January 2013 Intersession in New Delhi, India and Hong Kong and completed a 2013 summer internship in Istanbul. She is President of the Graduate Business Students Association as well as President and co-founder (in the good company of one Miss Meghan Tracy) of the newly-created Women's International Business Network and looking forward to another great year bringing a few extras to the Graduate Business Students!

Christa

Christa Campanella, GSC Council Member

Christa grew up in the Los Angeles area. She attended Boston College, receiving a BS in Biology and BA in Psychology with a Neuroscience concentration. After BC, she moved to New York City and worked as a research assistant on a NIH-funded national study of ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). Christa moved back to California to attend the MEPN Program at USD and is currently in her second year. She enjoys cooking, reading, yoga, and spending time outdoors.

Julio is from San Diego, California and has his BA in Finance from the University of Miami. He is currently enrolled in the Full-Time MBA program and is working toward a concentration in Supply-Chain Management and Finance. Before coming to USD, Julio worked at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas.

Ish

Ish Bhanu, GSC Council Member

Ish is in his third year at the School of Law. He grew up in Riverside, California and received his B.A. in Economics from UCLA in 2011. During his undergraduate career he was involved as a reporter and photographer at the Daily Bruin, UCLA’s school newspaper, and worked at the downtown Los Angeles courthouse helping low-income individuals with their family law and small claims issues. He is an avid adventurer who loves to travel whenever he can find the time.He is also currently working on his goal of traveling to every continent by time he is 26.

Devin is in her first year of the MA in Higher Education Leadership program. She is originally from Tucson, Arizona and is truly enjoying her new experience here at USD. She is a recent graduate from the University of Arizona where she majored in Political Science with minors in Leadership Studies & Practice as well as Adolescence, Community & Education. She is currently serving as a Graduate Assistant for Greek Life in the Student Leadership and Involvement Center. She is looking forward to exploring all that the city of San Diego has to offer over the next two years.

Jesse Rapport, GSC Council Member

Jesse is a first year in the MA Higher Education Leadership program. She is originally from Portland, Oregon and received her BS in Communication Studies from Southern Oregon University in 2012. After she completed college Jesse served as an AmeriCorps member and worked with under-represented college students developing a peer mentor program to help increase retention. She is currently a Graduate Assistant in the Student Leadership and Involvement Center at USD where she works to advise the undergraduate student programming board. Jesse is an avid hula hooper... but not very good.

Anai

Anai Novoa, GSC Council Member

Anai is a second year Marine Science graduate student. She is a San Diego native and received a BA in Biology from University of California, Santa Barbara in 2012. Once she graduates, Anai plans to pursue a PhD degree in Marine Science. She works with a non-profit organization, Ocean Discovery Institute (which she has been a part of for 10 years) to inspire underrepresented youth into the sciences. In addition, Anai helps coach wrestling at her former high school during the season.

Anthony

Anthony T. Nguyen, GSC Council Member

Anthony is a San Diego native and graduated from San Diego State University (SDSU) with a BA in Political Science. His academic interest includes issue on universal healthcare, human rights, human trafficking, and global HIV/AIDS. He previously interned for the U.S. Department of State's Office of the U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator and currently works for a local Member of Congress; handling issues on health policy, human rights, and the Asian Pacific Islander community. He is currently pursing an MA in International Relations at USD and hopes to acquire an MPH in global health policy shortly after. Anthony enjoys short track speed skating and has competed locally in southern California. He also enjoys archery and oil painting.

Sean Horrigan works as the Director of Student Conduct and Graduate Student Life and has been at USD since 2002. Sean serves as the Administrative Ex-officio (advisor) to the GSC. He completed his masters at USD and is now working on his PhD in the SOLES Leadership Studies program.  Sean also helps over see the operations of the Graduate and Law Student Commons in SLP 401.
