Communication at USD was founded in 1982 and has grown to be one of the largest departments in the College of Arts and Sciences. We approach communication as the primary social process: the various modes of human communication forge and maintain individual identity and collective organization.
Communication students perform research of personal interest — on their own under faculty advisement or in cooperation with faculty research — and are guided in finding internships so they have the chance to put their research and methods coursework into practice. Our faculty members consistently receive national recognition for their teaching and research. News media, civic organizations and scholars from around the world regularly seek out the expertise of the Communication faculty at USD.
