Double check your registration
- Make sure you know where you need to go and what to bring with you on election day!
- Do some research to figure out how you want to vote in all of the races on your ballot.
In California, you will vote by mail anytime after you receive your ballot in mid-October. Vote-by-mail ballots must be postmarked on or before Election Day and received by one week after Election Day.
You can also vote on Election Day or over the prior weekend at designated polling locations. Polls typically close at 8:00pm.
If you are a registered San Diego voter, the Degheri Alumni Center has historically been a designated Vote Center on USD's campus, which is very convenient for many students!
Think about your schedule for the dates leading up to Election Day in order to take advantage of early voting. What day and time works best for you to vote? Before going to class or work? At lunch? After dinner? Write it in your planner so you don't forget!
- If you are registered outside of San Diego county, you will probably vote by mail. Make sure to mail your completed ballot by Halloween to make sure it gets counted (and sign and date the outside envelope!)
- In California, each county will have its own list of in person polling sites.
- San Diego County encourages everyone to vote by mail. Everyone registered here will receive a ballot by mail.
- You can mail your ballot up until Election Day.

- If you are a first-time voter, you may be asked to show an ID card. A Student ID, Drivers License or other ID is sufficient in California.
- A few weeks before the election, you will receive a sample ballot in the mail. A lot of long-time voters fill this out in advance and bring it with them to make the process quicker. It's not a test--you can bring in any reference materials you want!

Of course! The state actually strongly recommends that you fill out your sample ballot and bring it with you to make the process go more quickly.
When you registered to vote, you were asked to fill in your driver license number, California identification number, or the last four digits of your Social Security number. If you did not include this information, be sure to send a photocopy of some personal identification in the envelope with your vote-by-mail ballot.
A copy of a recent utility bill, the sample ballot booklet you received from your county elections office, or another document sent to you by a government agency are examples of acceptable forms of identification. Other examples include your passport, driver license, official California identification card, or student identification card.
