The USD Eco-Resident Certification Program is designed to help students living on and off USD’s campus become more sustainable in their daily actions. By participating in this program, students help USD lower its ecological footprint and set a positive example for other students by demonstrating leadership, initiative, and sustainable thinking.

Certification Process
Set a Meeting
Set an in-person or virtual meeting with a student assistant from the Office of Sustainability. Email sustainability@sandiego.edu.
Review Questionnaire
The Office of Sustainability student assistant will guide you through a behavior-based questionnaire while offering explanations and tips on the following topics:
- Energy efficiency
- Water conservation
- Waste reduction (including reuse and recycling)
- Other conservation behaviors
Earn Points
Points are totaled by the Office of Sustainability student assistant based on responses
Earn a COMPASS, CONNECT, or PASSPORT Point & Be Entered in a Raffle
All eco-resident participants earn a COMPASS, CONNECT, or PASSPORT point and are entered into a raffle for sustainable prizes!
Note: If students would like to be become certified at the same time as their roommate(s), they will receive bonus points on their questionnaire. One roommate must e-mail sustainability@sandiego.edu with the names and e-mails of each roommate that wishes to participate in the certification process.
Once the meeting is complete, students receive e-mail follow-ups with information about sustainability-related events, ways to stay involved, and tips on maintaining a sustainable lifestyle.
