Dr. Alma Behar is a public health researcher with nearly two decades of experience leading equity-focused, community-engaged research. Her work has spanned the development and cultural adaptation of health interventions, validation of behavioral measures, and investigation of socio-environmental determinants of health, particularly in U.S.–Mexico border communities. Dr. Behar brings a strong methodological foundation, collaborative leadership, and a deep commitment to equity and cultural responsiveness.
In her current role at The Jacobs Institute for Innovation in Education, Dr. Behar applies this background to emerging research on ethical, responsible, and equitable uses of AI in K–22 education. She integrates disparities frameworks, participatory approaches, and rigorous program evaluation to examine how AI tools can support -or hinder- student learning, access, and wellbeing. Her overall aim is to advance a community-centered, justice-oriented vision for AI in education and to help build the next generation of diverse leaders in STEM and AI literacy.
