What is your educational and professional background?
I've worked in academia since 2005. I completed my undergrad and grad degrees at Cal State LA. I have an art background focused on decolonial art history and practices.
Why did you choose USD? What made USD stand out in comparison to other schools with a similar program?
USD stood out among the other programs; the social and restorative justice programs were ahead of what other campuses were doing. The resources and support at USD have made me feel welcome and seen.
What do you hope to do after grad school?
High-level administration to make college truly more accessible to first-time and first-generation college students.
Are you currently working? If so, do you work full-time or part-time, and what do you do?
I work full-time at Cal State LA. I'm a Chicana(o) and Latina(o) studies department lecturer.
What are you most excited for as you begin your program?
I'm excited to learn. I'm a nerd and have missed the camaraderie and discussion of ideas with classmates.
What advice can you share with prospective applicants?
Plan, be consistent, and develop time management skills.
